How teeth whitening works
Tooth Colour is influenced by a combination of stains found on the surface and inside the teeth. These discolorations can be the result of several factors, including diet (drinking coffee, tea and red wine), lifestyle choices (smoking), age, or exposure to certain medications.
Teeth Whitening is the process of breaking apart these stains through application of a peroxide-based whitening gel to the teeth surface. During treatment, the combination of the hydrogen peroxide whitening gel and an intense LED light source rapidly removes discolorations found on the surface of the teeth, rendering stains neutral in colour and resulting in a brighter appearance.
The pain free treatment has been extensively tested and is clinically proven to be safe with no long term effects on the teeth.
The result is a confident, refreshed, white shiny smile.
Additional Information
Prior to your Teeth Whitening you will have time to discuss your treatment and have any questions answered.
The use of toothpaste is not recommended for 4 hours before Teeth Whitening. Toothpaste can open up microscopic pores in your teeth which can then be blocked by fillers in the toothpaste resulting in inferior results.
It is recommended to wait at least 14 days after a scale and polish to have your teeth whitened as scaling and polishing can cause gums to recede from the base of the teeth increasing risk of hypersensitivity.
For 24 hours after your teeth whitening treatment you will need to follow a ‘white diet’ (non-staining foods or drinks). Information and suggestions will be discussed in studio prior to your procedure. Â
Studio Process
When you arrive I will talk you through the process, the equipment we use, and answer any questions you may have.
- You will then get settled into our relaxing environment with free wifi and Netflix.
- A cheek retractor will then be inserted into your mouth taking care of your lips with regular application of lip moisturiser.
- Whitening gel will be placed on your teeth then the light activator will be placed and turned on.
- This will begin the first of your teeth whitening application cycles.
- Whitening gel will be reapplied between the 10 or 15 minute applications.
- When all sessions are complete the cheek retractor will be removed and your beautiful naturally white smile will be revealed.
Conditions
Unfortunately I cannot offer this service to pregnant woman, woman who are breastfeeding or people under 16 years of age due to insufficient research available for these groups.
People who need filling work, have exposed roots, gum disease and open holes are not suitable until dental treatment has been completed.

For our safety and wellbeing Hamilton Teeth Whitening has adopted the following procedures. These procedures are in line with Government Covid-19 Traffic Light requirements for personal care businesses.Â
- Customers are encouraged to wear a mask or face covering while inside our studio.Â
- Customers can remove their face covering once the teeth whitening procedure is underway.
- Sarah will wear face mask at all times while in the studio.Â
- Sarah will utilise a fresh pair of surgical gloves at each gel application.

The owner operator, Sarah, is a registered New Zealand cosmetic teeth whitening aesthetician.
Sarah is experienced in providing professional hands on care through her other profession where she has 16 years experience as a registered nurse and continues to work at the local DHB.
